That said, all the poo-pooing of the summer has been set aside. 55-7, late score by Appy State to mess up the no-no. Hurd finally gets a 200 yard game. Appy State crosses the 50 yard line only 3 times the entire game. BOOM.
33-6. I'm thinking more field goals than TDs. Butch talks about rust and a young football team, throw game still needs work. Appy state should never be over looked. Don't forget about the field being in bad shape. BTW, I think the defense scores a TD.
"Don't let that Sun Belt patch on their jersey fool you, this was an SEC quality team that we faced. A 10 point win is nothing to be ashamed of and I'm proud of the fight that this team showed. Clearly, we still need more time, but we're getting closer to where we need to be as a program."
For what it's worth, Butch has been quoted as saying he wants us to go from average (last year) to elite (this year.) That's the kind of attitude I hope he really has. It's also the proper perspective about the 2015 team in terms of how we actually played (not talent).
I want to light them on fire, be up 42-0 at the half and send the backups in. No 24-0 crap like North Texas last year.
From the way the VQ guys are talking on their podcast, this team is itching to get out there and knock the crap out of somebody. I think Shoop is going to let them loose, too.
For the record, Appy State is ranked 43rd, according to USA Today. That includes being ahead of six SEC teams. That said, I think they crack under bright light pressure more than we come out fired up. Tennessee wins 38-14.
