It's already noted that he only brought up the wall during the campaign because his advisors thought it a good mnemonic device to stay on message about immigration (And also speaks to their value of his intelligence) and told the Mexican president he doesn't care much about the wall, but needed a "win". That's where I think we are today. I, actually, don't believe he really gives a shit about the wall, per se. I don't think he gives a shit about anything, really. However, he does love to drive a wedge between himself, his supporters and his "enemies".

 

He gives a shit about himself & Ivanka. That's about it.
