AKA "I support a political system where I would reap the benefits but not a social system where someone could get my stuff". I realize I'm generalizing and this is purely anecdotal, but most of the people I know that are socialists (again, actual socialism, not pseudo-socialism like federally backed social policies like Medicare/SS) are either not college educated or they are but they chose a worthless program and work a service industry job. Most notably this girl. She blames anyone but herself, and this is a mentality that I've anecdotally noted is pervasive amongst people that support a political system where they would be a primary beneficiary while actually losing little. I do think that if the US were to go to full socialism, this country wouldn't last a decade.
I think the difference is in the giving willingly vs the taking. I don’t think socialism as a political ideology says you can’t own property (have but not share), but that there should be a minimum of property available to everyone.
This is going to get way out into the weeds so it's probably best to have a separate thread to debate the tenets of socialism.
