Fugate Gone

In terms of some roster moves, walk-on Austin Bolen has left the squad and it appears senior linebacker Channing Fugate also is seeking to depart the football team and finish his career closer to home, according to sources. Fugate was not on the practice field Friday and VolQuest.com was told that Fugate had told friends he was unhappy with his spot in the rotation and would look to complete his career elsewhere. Walk-ons Tyler Page and Tyler Coombes began their acclimation periods on the practice field after rejoining the Vols' 105-man roster. - John Brice

How many recruits did Kiffin have that actually finished here?

If someone could PM the details on what Fugate did early in 2011 to Chaney/Dooley, I'd appreciate it.

5 counting Hood, and King. If you count the EE's from 2010, it's 9 total.

I'd probably leave too if I signed on with Kiffin and ended up with Dooley.

    Was Sykes a 2009 guy?

Fugate was pretty tough on a pass route out of the backfield, imo. I always thought he was our best FB option the last couple of years. So naturally ****-stick moves him to defense.

He was listed on the commit list for 2009. I think he went Juco.

He was a threat we hadn't had in awhile.... so he got leapfrog'd by a guy who wasn't even on the depth chart the previous year.....

How did he screw up by recruiting guys smart enough to tran away from Dooley?

Intelligence is better than 2* to unranked "high character" guys, imo.

This is what I admire about Hat. Always looking at the bright side.

He's saying Kiffin screwed us by leaving, not by recruiting people smart enough to get off a sinking ship.

Of course, had Hamilton put actual thought into the Dooley hire, Kiffin could have transitioned into his dream job, and we could have retained some ballers.

So, it is at best misplaced anger.

Chaney deserves some of the blame. He wouldn't know what to do with a fullback if one [itch bay]-slapped his mother.

I didn't take it that way. I took it as Kiffin didn't recruit well because his guys didn't stay here. First, there are some pretty damn good guys on that transfer list. Two, take the early entries from the couple of days before he left off the roster and see what a shit show the last two years would have been.

I said it then. I'll say it now. The only miss Lane had in staff hiring was not getting Bill Callahan to sign on as OC and settling for Chaney.

Yep. Bill Callahan is a good O-line Line Coach and offensive mind.

Too bad for him he's not head coach material.
