Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans on the board and around the world. Thanks so much for your service and all you do. Side note/proud dad moment- My oldest daughter and her girls scout troop baked 80 dozen cookies and put them in hand made tins to give to local veterans. They were told they could go to the local Legion on Thursday to help pass out the tins of cookies if they wanted to. My daughter wanted to go and my youngest who is not old enough to be in girl scouts wanted to go too so my wife took them both. They were the only ones that showed up so between the 2 of them they passed out 80 cookie tins. They stayed and ate dinner with all of them and visited for a few hours. They had a blast and even got featured in our local newspaper. So very proud of them because even at a young age they understand the importance our our veterans. Had to share.
Thanks to all of you who are in service or have ever served. You guys are among the very best of us. So much of who we are and the life we enjoy is owed to you.
A special shout out to my grandfather, a career Marine and vet of Korea and Vietnam, who was killed due to Agent Orange, slowly and painfully, when I was six years old. Here's to remembering to take care of these men and women long after they've served their "usefulness" to those who decide to put us in military conflicts. A lesson I especially learned from my grandpa, the only man I know to scare the shit out of my dad (A fun story that involves the 70s, disco, lamb chop side burns, a white Saturday Night Fever style outfit and meeting your future wife's hard ass Marine father for the first time).
Big thanks to the guys here who have served, that type of self-sacrifice can only be done by the best of men.
It's great when your kids do something selfless like this. Last year my kids had money leftover from Christmas and couldn't decide what to do with it, so they came up with the idea of donating it to a local dog shelter. I was impressed, would've been a set of baseball cards if it were me.
