Right. I'm sure Maybin, Randolph, Maggit, and Sutton couldn't figure out where to line up without Jumper telling them. There's veterans all over the field. That crap shouldn't be an issue.

Is that why JRM was telling Jumper where to line up several times during the BGSU game?

    God, people are dumb.

While we're on the subject of the linebacker depth chart. . . where is Cortez McDowell? I thought he was going to be JRM's primary backup and one of the guys competing for time after Maggitt went down, but he's not even showing up on the two-deep. Do I just have in my head that he's good when he's actually not, or what?

    We don't have depth charts:

He's played some this year and was a special teams demon last year.

From what little he's been on the field, he's been good.

Jumper was just quizzing JRM, trying to make sure he knew where everyone is supposed to line up.

That's kinda why I thought he was well on his way to following in JRM's footsteps and not being buried behind Kenny Bynum on the depth chart.

This staff handles playing time a little different than most.

That is absolutely fair. I just like having a handle on whether this is a bust situation or a baffling decision situation.

I would say baffling decision situation.

Like letting Coleman Thomas flounder at RT instead of playing center, where he's looked pretty damn good

    or

rotating wide receivers every 3 snaps, holding up play and letting the defense make substitutions, thus negating the only reason you run hurry up

    or

    starting Jumper over Kirkland

    or

playing McKenzie a handful of snaps in the first two games

    or

    rolling Worley out over Dobbs

just separating that category from the "not playing Dontavius Blair" category (which, to Butch's credit, is smallish)

Tenacious D The law is of supreme importance, or no importance

If Jones quit today, and we re-hired Dooley:

75% of the fan base would support him, simply because he was the head coach

    Of that group...

30% would argue that his having been fired, and returning, was a testament to his love of the University

30% would say that his time away, as Cowboys WR coach, was all he needed to be the "total package"

30% would say that he got a raw deal with the decimated roster, and will be a dark horse to win the SEC, now that he has Jones' talent. This season. They'd say he'll win the SEC this season, beat Florida and they'd say we're the dark horse for NC.

Front-runner for NC next season, for sure.

10% would claim that he's immediately better than any other candidate we could have gotten, citing his Southern drawl and "arnge" paints as Exhibits A & B in supporting their argument.

This is not hyperbole. It's not a joke. Each of these predicted percentages would be accurate, with a margin of +/- 5-7%.

Is it that difficult for a non mike LB to make the calls?

For the even remotely competent coaching staff? No.

    For this one? Probably.
