He back tracked because it got turned into a public negative against him and Vandy. The truth or conviction of the statement went out the window when he was pushed about it and he was losing the PR battle the longer it went.

 

Possibly because he isn't recruiting many guys to take their first step towards medical school or nuclear engineering. He wants football players. It is no coincidence that you'll see a list of schools where Vanderbilt is the academic outlier when you examine a lot of offer lists.

 

I don't know where Franklin went to school, but unless he went to Vandy himself, being the football coach doesn't make you a graduate. So, if he did not attend Vanderbilt, then I guess he settled.

 

He attended something called East Stroudsburg University, which I have heard called the Vanderbilt of Eastern Pennsylvania.
