They have no real power. But the British love the pomp and circumstance of the royals. Kind of a reminder of where they came from.
I’ll readily grant that this isn’t significant history. It’s history - but not greatly significant. Why the media coverage? It’s entertainment. Why say it’s HISTORICAL? Because the media has to make everything Uber-relevant. There is a new Duke of Sussex, as the title has been restored. And a first Duchess of Sussex. There’s society and there’s Society, and the ability to influence and move from within Society is meaningful in the UK. Meghan is already an activist with fame and some money. But this will give her an entirely different platform. The family still has plenty of significance when it comes to influence in England. As for history, I find it a nice piece of history that the possible future Duke of Sussex could be descended from American slavery when the first Duke of Sussex was an abolitionist.
I would have liked to have gone, just to throw all their tea in the closest body of water I could find
That is how I heard it described; for a few hours millions of people around the World had a common joy/escape.
As I understand it they have already had a black Queen. https://aaregistry.org/story/englands-first-black-queen-sophie-charlotte-born/
Interesting. I didn’t know her bloodline descended from Africa. And the queen no less. How far removed I wonder?
Just a wee bit pricier than ours. I'm not sure how it will all shake out in the end but found this interesting: http://people.com/royals/prince-har...pected-to-bring-in-how-much-money-in-the-u-k/
My genealogy is traced back to there one being the sheriff of London in the late 1500's. The royal family racket is just annoying to me.
King and queen stuff isn’t my thing but I don’t see a big deal if someone finds it interesting. I might change my mind if my 23 and me comes back and puts me in nobility.
