The north fork of the Holston is one if the top smallmouth streams in the US, and another is just over the Virginia line, the Clinch River.
Best bass fishing I have stumbled upon was on the Bruno River, which flows into the Snake in Idaho. I don't know if you can even fish there any more though. Some sort of endangered snail there.
