Open practice 8/16

I'm somewhat encouraged after watching the OLs go one on one. They looked good. I hope that doesn't mean the DL sucks

 

They did look pretty good. I'm hoping they can blow holes thru the USU DL and our RBs run rampant. Lurked on their site a few times and they are so darn full of themselves. I believe they have a pretty solid team that could beat us, heresy, I know. Would love to see us do a 72-13 number on them.

 

their front seven is actually pretty solid, if they can hold Wisconsin to 16. That was a couple years ago, I know, but if they think the front seven is a strength, I believe them. They obviously at least know what good fronts look like. We are obviously more talented though.

 

There's nothing wrong with what Ken posted. If there is an issue with the site, we want to know about it.

 

I agree. Looked at some of their practice videos. Looks like the DL really brings it so expect we will have problems with that. I question not Chuck Keeton but his receivers. I suspect they aren't as good as previously and will have trouble with our CBs. However, this will result in more runs by their QB and you know what has done to us these past few years.

 

He is like 10 months off ACL surgery. I don't know if he will be his usually scrambly self.

 

This is why you don't watch practice videos.

I hope not. But he did look pretty and it's claimed (yeah, right) that he's running the same and not pampering his leg. One thing I hope Butch & Co. put to our boys' attention is this Chuckie hop they call it. Seems when he is about to be tackled he brings both feet off the ground. It's a reasonable injury avoidance move but also increases chance of escape tackles or letting the tackler force farther forward movement = more yards. This hop is why he got hurt but it was due to bringing one leg down in front of the other which resulting in it being hyper-extended on landing. But he's back to using the hop again.

I saw a bit of the practice clip that was posted on the grantland article about Keeton, and it's tough to tell whether his movement is back. You really can't tell until you're forced to see him move in a reactive manner, and all I saw in that clip were scripted run-throughs. But he tore both his ACL and MCL 10 months ago. He's likely not the same. Only Adrian Peterson comes to mind as recovering back to 100% that quickly. Justin Hunter had more time than Keeton and he wasn't the same.

 

Tennessee's dl is undersized.
