All I see is one police station buying a bearcat. A bigger sample size would make this more than a demagogue piece.

    imho, of course.

KPD is just hoping the veterans and college kids don't make an alliance

There's nothing wrong with re-purposing what would otherwise be scrapped or parked DoD equipment for local law enforcement such as SWAT. If there's a need and it limits the local gov's from having to spend money why not?

Several small and medium size Departments here in the mid-state got MRAPS. It's a piece of worn out junk that hardly runs. The last 4 felony warrants that our SWAT team served were on Iraqi and Afghan war vets. We've also got several Korean War model 1911's and Vietnam era M-14's and AR's. We've had them for years and can't return them or sell them.

    AN M-14 would be cool.

    Not an either/or situation, Jay.

Btw, if we can't trust police with armored vehicles then why are they the police? I have my issues with abuse of authority, but I see no reason to be more concerned because of this sort of thing than before. It is the authority/badge that matters and needs to be sacred. The tools they wield fall into place just fine for the vast majority that actually serve and protect. A good and principled police force could have an Abrams, for all I care. It isn't about that little-[penis] "can't let someone have better stuff than me" gun nut stuff that creeps up. Or at least shouldn't be.

I mean, the citizenry can arm themselves to the teeth, but not the cops. Right?

Five shot .38 specials and that is it. Maybe a billy club. MAYBE.

Yep. Folks want their big toys. Police need to have an answer for them.

I loved the M-14. It was incredibly accurate...

Oh, I get that. I would just love to be able to squeeze off some rounds from a BAR.

Browning was amazing in his ability to design firearms.

Some folks up your way have BARs. I don't know them, but friends of an acquaintance years ago.

The fact that the M2 is still being used 80 years later is flat out amazing.
