Whatever many and valid opinions there may be on this action, the border is about to be fully secured, and in shockingly quick fashion. Link: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-military-to-protect-u-s-border-idUSKCN1HA25B
Just playing devil's advocate here, because I am not sure that it isn't a good idea (but I have my doubts). But the optics of it, basically amassing your army on the border of an Ally could be taken poorly. Seems most countries use a civilian force to guard their borders, not their regular army.
Great question. I'd say that the first level of force - presence - would be sufficient for almost all, but some may not abide that. Will be interesting to see the Rules of Engagement, or any amendments made to them.
We have our military amassed on dozens of borders around the world, on land, sea and air, including allies. I guess Mexico could always push their forces forward, but that would be folly. I'd predict lots of protestations, if even that, and if he even does it (and I'm not at all sure he will).
Now, Float / BPV and others can weigh in on this with infinitely more expertise than I have, but I'm legit curious to see the Rules of Engagement. Anyone failing to "not enter" to "stop" and "resisting" a member of the military, or in an area under its direct and immediate control is likely to incur a reaction that's a damned site different than what one might encounter when doing the same against a civil authority, including law enforcement.
1. I remain confident that the wall will be built, and that Mexico will indeed pay for it, one way or another. 2. I don't care about who pays for it, really, so long as it's built.
I don't think he'll follow through to the extent that he promised. In othe words, I think it will be a half assed job but JMO of course.
I interpret "one way or another" as acknowledgement that the US taxpayer will, in fact, pay for it's construction.
Posse comitatas anyone? I'm admittedly ignorant and am sure there is a way around it. Since I'm too lazy to look it up, I'll hang up and listen. For the record, I think this is more for show than go, but I've been wrong at least once before.
