So you're saying that if he had recruiting classes that were constantly mired in the teens... he would be in the CFP every year?
Point as will follow: Bret Bielema won 74% of his games at Wisconsin against Big-10 opponents with average talent. Bret Bielema won 46% of his games at Arkansas against SEC opponents with average talent.
Average coaches will go further with elite talent than elite coaches will with average talent.[/QUOTE] I would take an elite coach over elite talent.
I agree. What little UT football I watched this season, I felt pity for the Vol QBs. They were difficult to watch. Perhaps just a little good coaching would help them. If you don't have a dominate defense, it's difficult to win without a good QB.
That was before his senior season though. He killed it in summer camps and was on the rise when we snatched him up.
Oh, I thought you meant that our current recruiting class was good enough as is. I believe that we have depth issues due to attrition and that our players have not progressed enough in S&C. But there is talent. O-Line and LB are particularly thin.
Yep, but if he lets offensive guys do their thing, shine and move on, that will work too. Gary Patterson and Bob Stoops are two defensive minded coaches that hire up and comers and get out of their way. Saban doesn't meddle in the offense, for the most part until they throw passes up two scores in the 4th. Who knew who McElwain or Nussmeier where until they got the keys to the offense at Alabama? Saban hired Applewhite, realized he [uck fay]ed up and quickly moved on too. Pruitt is going to model himself after Saban
