    GAME 11
    ITEMS OF NOTE

¢ This is the fourth contest of a six-game homestand
for Tennessee that began Dec. 13 and
    stretches through Jan. 9.

¢ The Volunteers are a perfect 5-0 at home this
season and own a 20-4 home record under
    second-year head coach Cuonzo Martin.

¢ Vols point guard Trae Golden is averaging 17.0
points, 5.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds during UT’s
    current homestand (last three games).

¢ Over the last three games, UT has a doubledigit
edge in both scoring margin (+13.0 ppg)
    and rebounding margin (+11.7 rpg).

¢ After missing last Tuesday’s game with a
strained hamstring, senior forward Kenny Hall
returned last Friday to grab a career-high 13 rebounds
in the win over Western Carolina.

¢ As a head coach, Cuonzo Martin is 3-0 vs. current
members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. He
led Missouri State to a pair of wins over Saint
Louis, and his Vols defeated UMass this season.

¢ For last Saturday’s home game vs. Wofford,
Xavier wore special green and white uniforms,
socks and shoes to honor those who perished at
Sandy Hook Elementary. The jerseys and shorts
will be auctioned at GoXavier.com through Jan.
4 and the proceeds will benefit the Sandy Hook
    School Support Fund.

¢ Xavier freshman Semaj Christon leads the Musketeers
in scoring (14.2 ppg) and has already garnered
two A-10 Rookie of the Week awards.

¢ Xavier forward Travis Taylor — who began his
college career at Monmouth Univeristy — totaled
20 points and 11 rebounds against Wofford.

    WESTERN CAROLINA RECAP

¢ Tennessee used an 18-2 run midway through
the second half to rally from a deficit and knock
off Western Carolina, 66-52, before 15,109 Friday.

¢ Four Vols scored in double-figures. Junior
Jordan McRae led with 14 points off the bench.
Sophomore Josh Richardson equaled his careerhigh
with 12 points. Sophomore Jarnell Stokes
also netted 12 points, while grabbing nine rebounds.
Junior Trae Golden tallied 10 points,
    making 8-10 from the foul-line.

¢ In his return after missing the previous game
due to a strained hamstring, Kenny Hall grabbed
a career-high 13 rebounds and added nine points.

¢ Tennessee held its fifth opponent this season to
60 or fewer points, and the Vols out-rebounded
    WCU 45-30.

¢ UT led 22-18 at halftime despite having just
three made field goals. Tennessee’s three field
goals were the fewest by UT in a half since shooting
3-of-29 in the second half against Butler in
    2006.

¢ Western Carolina was led by Trey Sumler, who
had 23. Brandon Boggs added 15.
    GUARDS GOING TO THE GLASS

¢ Point guard Trae Golden is averaging a careerbest
3.7 rebounds per game, and his season rebounding
total stands at 37 through 10 games.

    ¢ Jordan McRae recently had a career-hightying
    eight-rebound effort vs. Presbyterian on
Dec. 18 and is averaging 3.1 rpg.

¢ Josh Richardson is UT’s top perimeter rebounder,
ranking third on the team with 4.9 rpg.

¢ In total, Tennessee’s regular perimeter starters
    — Golden, Richardson and senior Skylar McBee
(1.3 rpg) — combine to account for 9.9 rpg.
    FREE THROW S FINALLY FALLING

¢ During UT’s two-game road losing skid at
Georgetown and Virginia early this month, the
Vols shot 42.1 percent from the free-throw line as
    a team (8-for-19).

¢ In the three games since (all home wins), UT
is shooting 76.6 percent at the line (72-for-94).
McRAE SECOND IN SEC IN FT SHOO TING

¢ Junior guard Jordan McRae owns the secondbest
free-throw percentage in the SEC. The Midway,
Ga., native is shooting .879 from the stripe
    (29-of-33).
VOLS HELD FO UR STRAIGHT UNDER 60

¢ From Nov. 26 through Dec. 13, Tennessee held
four straight opponents to 60 points or less, tying
for the program’s longest such streak in the
    shot-clock era.

¢ The Vols’ streak came against: Oakland (50),
No. 20 Georgetown (37), Virginia (46) and No.
23 Wichita State (60). UT went 2-2 during that
stretch, while its opponents averaged 48.3 ppg.

¢ In 1995-96, UT went 3-1 during a similar fourgame
streak, and the Big Orange also put together
    a four-game streak in 1985-86 while going
    4-0.

I went to the UT-X game in Cincinnati several years ago over Christmas. Was a hell of a time...enjoyed with a beer in hand, which wasn't bad either.

Who gives a bad rap to Cincy? I enjoy it there. It's not a city with a ton of nightlife, but it's got what I want out of one.

Agree. Once you factor in Covington and Newport, the only way you can't find nightlife there is if you aren't making any effort.

Newport has added a lot in the last 5-10 years, that's for sure. I would like to see downtown Cincy recover in that area, but it's hard with Newport growing like it is for that demographic.
