it's annoying, because I like to see women make it in an otherwise all male sport. that's just not what this is.
Rexrode writes a good piece every once in a while. Even those tend to have a tinge of being hollow, predictable, and sometimes seemingly self serving style.
From a business perspective, perhaps? I think it was just a natural outflow from luring established beat writers who only did one thing, so they ended up with some bloat. From a (former, off-and-on, heavily discounted) customer perspective, it's pretty much the only thing I'm looking for. And they are severely lacking at the moment.
rivals and 24/7 and such have proven that there is only a handful of fanbase big and rabid enough to warrant that type of coverage.
Too bad, I love the concept and there is some great sportswriting there, which isn't common on the internet, or hell, even in newspapers anymore. Perhaps not a good fit in a hot take world, though.
