The main story I remember floating around at the time was that Geno was apparently going around telling recruits that we were competing head to head for that the Lady Vols were all “dykes” and that unless they wanted to be surrounded by a sea of lesbians they probably shouldn’t sign up to play for Pat Summit’s program. Her finding out about his alleged homophobic negative recruiting is why Pat axed the series. Supposedly
Odd because Geno looks like an old “Dyke”woman. Think we all have an aunt who looks like him who has lived “with a friend” for many years.
Summitt ended up at 9-13 against them, which wasn't terrible, though her worst record against a rival. She was killed by the early 2000s run UConn went on, but the recent incantation of the series was murder to some pretty overmatched Summitt tree coaches for the Lady Vols. It didn't help that UConn was doing some shady shit recruiting and, as such, Pat told them to pound sand, right after she won three in a row against them.
It’s shame that Pat Summitt had to much class to call Geno out publicly. Could have been entertaining.
The irony is it’s not like UConn has not had a ton of very high profile lesbians such as Diana Terrasi and Sue Bird themselves over the years. But Geno gonna Geno like the asshole he has always been
She had a legitimate reason for doing it. And no it was not because she couldn’t beat him. She actually won the last 3 meetings.
