What's The Highest Rated Player Ever Being a Bust ?

McKenzie ending up being the number 3 rated player in the country got me to thinking...

Who is the highest rated player coming out of high school that turned out to be a bust in college ? There's lots of stories about players busting in the pros but what about in school ?

 

OJ Owens was hyped like Ronnie Lott and couldn't play dead in a war movie.

Mustain is a recent one that comes to mind to me. Also, Dorial Green-Beckham.

 

Green-Beckham was a #1.

 

But, do you think he lived up to the expectations he had coming out of high school ? Maybe he did and I just wasn't paying attention (highly possible).

 

Their was a 6'5 mormon QB that was number 1 overall in '01 or '02 and never started a game iirc

 

Was Vidal Hazelton his name? I think he was a number 1 by some folks. Never remember him doing anything of note.

 

Bryce Brown at least got some run and eventually landed in the NFL...

Chris Donald never saw the field here iirc....not sure he even did well at UTC later on.

 

Wasn't there another Notre Dame QB (not Rick Mirer) that flopped really bad ?

 

Hazelton was a USC WR that transferred to Cincy.
