I think Shoop is a good DC. Between the staff catastrophe and injuries he wasn't playing with a fair deck. Time to prove me right.

He didn't do a good job improvising last year. Plan A didn't work (because complicated scheme and injuries) so he just decided to be ok with sucking is what I saw. Hopefully, Plan A will work this year.

There was a problem with the scheme, but talent was a big issue too

 

Being a spilling team with the line doing BDSD, and the secondary struggling on force, and sucking at linebacker on scraping over killed us.

 

Not having any linebackers ready to play is a coaching problem. We've stacked that position with highly rated recruits but developed none of them. The only decent linebackers we've ever had in the Butch era were good when they set foot on campus.

 

For the most part, that's true of every position during Butch's tenure.

 

If he has a bad year this year with a better staff and more than likely better luck with injuries I 'll retract my previous statement.
