I've heard only the one song. And, yes, I like it. And I definitely used that example on purpose to elicit the above response from you, which allows me to respond in a manner that further underscore that the mere consideration of whether liking a particular artist will be considered cool or uncool is both a wasted second of brainpower and a touch pathetic. Heck yeah I like the song "Call Me Maybe". That's a fantastic pop song. Music isn't supposed to be hard, my man. And that one is really easy to like. Nobody's gonna laugh at you, killer. They all like it too.
No, no you wouldn't. Not even a loose resemblance. I do appreciate that you tried to circle back to the original theme, but next time maybe focus on finding a better nexus. Because, again, Blurred Lines sounds nothing like a modern country song. And I do wanna make sure we're clear on that.
Cowboy is a timeless classic. Who, at one time or another, hasn't wanted to go be a porn star in California?
Question: Would you guys consider The Avett Brothers country? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5OZCKxj158 Because I think they're better than any of the current "country" artists. Granted I don't listen to a lot.
I'll summarize. Hipsters generally suck, but they do serve the limited purpose of potentially introducing me to good new bands (that they'll later disown when they become popular). You're like a hipster without the limited redeeming quality. You're a homeless man's hipster.
It doesn't sound like it, just bears comparison because of the pack of decent musical backing and features maddening redundancy. Country music probably usually has a lot more going on with the vocals, though (often too much, I'd argue).
I've listened to very little Avett Brothers, but there are a number of bands I like that incorporate elements of country music. So I think this is a good question. Lumineers Edward Sharpe & Magnetic Zeros Mumford & Sons Bon Iver Fleet Foxes Of Monsters and Men And there are more I could list. The first two bands I listed above are bands that I actually like quite a bit. I have no issues with stuff that sounds country-ish or folkish. And I don't even have any inherent issues with country music other than the fact that it's festering garbage. If it were good, I'd like it. I don't discriminate music on the basis of genre, but only the basis of whether it sounds good or sounds terrible. Also, I should note that I kinda like The Band Perry, and I guess they qualify as country, right?
There is a very fine line between "country" and lots of other styles of music. I guess the curse of that is being the catch all for a lot of stuff that sucks.
I'll give Kid Rock credit for at least sampling two really good songs. I do think the "two song rip off song" is just poor form, but Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London are classics.
