Legitimizing the Sanders ideology can in no way help this country. It is built on a seies of lies with specific purpose.

I don't much like Hillary Clinton, but she is a preferable alternative to actual socialism.

Fox announcing that Romney had no chance would essentially be saying "please don't watch TV on a night we typically get some of the best ratings in four years."

I must be misremembering 2012's prognostications. Or maybe I was paying too much attention to mouthbreathers. Either way, I concede that it was not commonly thought Romney had it in the bag.

I was not clear in my point. It is not about Sanders' ideology, rather his role as a non-traditional candidate. I believe a large segment of his support, much like Trump's, is due to his being perceived as a political outsider of sorts. Reality or not, it's all about perception. It's a unified statement of discontent from the electorate.

Me wanting Trump and Sanders as the nominees has nothing to do with ideology or competency as POTUS, it's all about inflicting the most damage to our corrupt and ineffective two party system. Of course that leaves us in a bit of a predicament in the general, but perhaps a necessary evil.

Wait, plenty of people thought Romney was going to win, including a number on this board. The theory was that the polls were oversampling Democratic voters. Hell, the Rasmussen polls were trying overcompensate for this supposed phenomenon and plenty of Republican/conservative people were pointing to that polling service as the most accurate and respected one. It was, most definitely, a common refrain that Romney was going to win.

It sort of repeated itself this time around, and I got suckered in a bit, too, as the polls were high on Trump very early and steadily. Yet, people ignored them and thought it was a passing fad. People ignore the numbers all the time to fit what they want to see.

    Perfect, and thanks. Three follow-ups:

    1. Who ultimately wins - moderates or conservatives?

    2. Which side does Trump's winning the nomination help, if any?

    3. How does each side (moderates and conservatives) view Trump's winning the nomination?

There's a trend emerging in this poll.

Someone told me that they've yet to meet a single HRC supporter.

I can now say that I know one.

I think it says a tremendous amount about the Republicans that the last two standing were a conservative insurgent from within and a complete outsider. The kiss of death was annointment by the ruling moderates. It killed jeb, and they turned to rubio, who immediately imploded, so they chose Cruz as a never Trump option, who quickly died. I heard someone comment that the only way to stop Trump was for reintz prebus to endorse him, and there is some truth in that.

I think Bernie might tell a different story, mainly how far left the Democratic party has come, so much so that a died in the wool socialist can contend for the nomination and party royalty must shift over there with him to prevail.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a Hillary supporter. I supported Obama. Hillary is merely the device I hope will stop Trump. There aren't any other options in that respect.

I don't know. It will be interesting to see if the party tries to come together at the convention. Jeb bush, reps royalty, just got clown stomped despite having all establishment money and power behind him. I think the party must move right or it will lose its base, much as the Dems shifted left. It's ananthema to typical two party poly sci where you are supposed to race to the middle, but they are headed in opposite directions if tea party types prevail.

I don't think Trump is a reagan conservative, but I think he is more acceptable to conservatives than, say, bush or Romney. He isn't afraid to speak out on hot button issues and his stance on immigration hits home, a least in a sound bite. If the moderates want to stay in control there are things they should learn from this primary, but honestly,, I do not know if they can.

Thats said better. I think conservatives see Trump as the device to stop radical progressivism, which they are continuing under Hillary as under Obama. They do not see moderates as doing anything much at all.

How conservative was Reagan really though? 2/3 pro choice justices, size of govt. grew, went easy on the illegals, etc. I love what he did to the USSR, but that was more about leadership than conservative principles.

What happens when all those Sanders voters don't go to Hillary? Not saying it will happen in droves, but I'm not saying it isn't either. I've heard just as many say they'll vote Trump just out of spite as I have heard they'd vote for Hillary.

Fair, and I understand why you'll vote for her. But the trend is the point of the poll, unscientific and ill-represented of the populace as it is.

Are you sure? How is universal healthcare more left than Hillary in the 90's? How is his foreign policy stuff more left than dems post Vietnam to the 1990's? Is he really further left than say FDR? I don't think so. I think he is a bit of an over-correction from a party that lost their identity with the Clintons.
