The pick & roll with Ja and Jaren tonight at the end the game was awesome. I think these guys will still be in for a rough patch or two this season, particularly if we unload some of the vets at the trade deadline. The realistic goal this year was to have a fun, competitive team and to convey the pick to Boston in a crappy draft. Seems like we're heading that way.
We went to a Celtics game a few weeks back, and they were very accommodating of my girlfriend’s knee injury, probably more so than she needed. Elevators, special seating (that we didn’t select when purchasing our tickets), etc. They can definitely make it happen.
I think Jae Crowder is the only one of consequence that would possibly be moved at this point. He's certainly putting on a show for contenders these past few games. But a beat reporter said the front office is going to retain the same long term plan regardless of record. It would suck to fall out of the playoff race, but ultimately giving young guys more run and loading up on assets is more consequential for the future than getting demolished in the first round.
Whatever. Players call each other N word nightly. No problem. A coach who has helped more black kids than many can imagine, has to tearfully apologize for using the word thug. Ridiculous as is most of what happens nowadays. Guess who else was a thug. Marshal Henderson. The Ky kid who twisted the guys foot. Orange deep Singh, cricket enforcer
"Thug" has always had racial connotations, just because a couple of white dudes have been called the same doesn't immediately remove this fact. It can also mean Bielein said something racially insensitive or wrong, however you want to put it, but is not necessarily a racist person or some kind of Klan member.
Person A thinks "thug" can refer to white, black, Asian, Latino, etc. Person B immediately thinks "thug" is referring to black people. Who's got some racial issues in that scenario?
Just because Person A doesn't think "thug" doesn't have racial connotations, doesn't mean it doesn't. It's just like if Person A doesn't think blackface is anything other than dressing up in a funny costume. Person B being aware blackface has racial connotations doesn't mean they are the ones to have racial "issues".
I dont agree. Which is cool. 2 biggest thugs I knew growing up were white kids. One carried a blackjack or whatever it's called and just whack people with it. Thugs in Hickory Hill and mt moriah, near Danny Owen's places to boot, a couple blocks from where all the kids hung out at the skate center, weren't just black dudes. Few were. Whatever the media wants to tell me what it's supposed to mean is fine.
It's fine you disagree and can find white dudes whom you consider "thugs". However, it does have a racial connotation connected with it, even if you don't personally do so, and it has for a while. It's been a code word used in place of the n-word and "the media" isn't the only one sounding the brigade on this.
It means whatever people want it to mean. Its use has been all over the place since the word was first used to describe robbers centuries ago. Not black people. Robbers. Thug, for awhile, meant anti establishment when Tupac was fighting whatever he was fighting. Thug where I was, was the same as defined years ago. People change the meaning based on whatever they want it to mean, or because someone told them that's what it means. PC was mentioned earlier and imo this type of situation goes right with it, cracker.
You mean words change meaning and they can be given meaning based upon common understanding to mean a given thing? Yeah, that's language. Your reaction to this is exactly why coded language works and is successful. The meaning can be a wink to certain people while giving them deniability to their intended meaning. It doesn't mean everyone who uses thug is necessarily racist or even understands the term has overtones, but it still does in certain circumstances.
Haven't really followed the story that closely, but think there's a pretty easy middle ground here. Dude screwed up and said something with racist connotations. Doesn't mean he's a terrible person, but it's worth addressing. I also think the players are sick of his "college coach" act and wanted to pump this up to get him on the hot seat.
All you guys mention is fair. Does Doc Rivers get in trouble if he says the same thing? No, it doesn't leave the locker room. 2 maggit last paragraph is more reason than the use of the word
