Some may take this too seriously as it's somewhat kidding and somewhat not, but the emphasis on winning the last 10-15 years as kids are developing has been lessened. Heard it in club soccer for years. "Americans are too focused on winning" we were told by Irish and Barca coaches. "Its not always about winning". "Don't look at the scoreboard". Everybody wins!
We are seeing the product of not focusing on doing everything you can to get the W.
