If I don't have children, the money I put in for education still benefits me with a literate and educated populace.

Same with medical. A healthy society, even if I don't directly use the benefit, benefits me.

We don't live in little isolated bubbles.

That's true, but there's a shit ton of society that won't even try to help themselves.

Almost all of our issues on health care are due to personal lifestyle choices.

I truly feel sorry for people like Jay. I want a system to be able to help them. However the person eating junk food all day and smoking a pack of smokes a day.

exactly. I will hopefully never be homeless, but paying for my county to give them a place to sleep, dry out, and look after them to the extent they will allow makes me safer and the community more stable.

Agreed. The cost of millions of uninsured is an immense burden on the system which creates higher prices on all manner of services.

But should that be forced or fall under charity.

I also have no issue with social programs at the state and local levels. Federally, I don't like them as it is a reach of power.

But we also cannot let it keep us from doing the right thing.

And as for 53 and supporting Fatty McSmoker, I would rather 1 Jay get what he needs, even if I have to support 5 Fatty McSmokers.

And hopefully the Fatty McSmokers, with good healthcare, will stop doing what they do.

And we support then anyway, now, through indigent care, Medicare, etc. I just see the benefits outweighing the negatives.

'general welfare' of the nation is right in the Constitution.

Without fundamental changes to the basics of our healthcare system, if we go Medicare for all we will be looking Greek austerity issues within 2 decades, if not faster.

You are just putting a bandaid on a slit wrist.

its bs that jo schmo can go to a bar, get in a fight, get his head caved in by a bat by a random dude while he was just doing nothing, taken by ambulance to Level 1 trauma center, have head and face surgery, stay for a month then go home without paying anything because he doesn't have any money or insurance. I don't have an answer for it. It just bullshit imo. And it happens every day. I was on pager at Vandy for 3 years with trauma equipment with residents as they put faces and heads back together,. I don't have an answer. I just think its bs, especially when some who pay 1-2k a month for insurance still has preexisting clauses. Jo can get fixed for free because he doesn't have anything and was out drunk at a bar at 2 am. Meanwhile man with a lumbar issue paying private pay can't get help because his insurance says his back trouble started 20 years ago and his new policy is 5 years old. I don't like it.

by all means, let us change the fundamental basics. they suck so, so bad. Doctors ought not be spending time haggling with insurance companies, for one. [uck fay] that. it's a waste of their time and in itself ought to have a cost as much as patient time does. I'd rather abolish insurance as we know it and cut all the middle men out than let this continue to fester and grow.

The only way the proposals of Warren and Sanders play out in a sustainable form that lasts from generation to generation is to abolish the monetary system.

Then you’ll actually have a model for democratic socialism.

Yes, let us abolish insurance. I will follow you up this hill. Our healthcare dollars pay for millions of man hours that are dedicated solely to making sure that money is transferred from one entity to another. Insurance billing codes and other mumbo jumbo that has nothing to do with the actual cost should be removed from society.

I am completely serious here. I honestly believe that one of the biggest problems with healthcare today is that no one knows what the actual costs are associated with it. How can you with so many folks who have nothing to do with healthcare with their hand out wanting a share of the money being paid.

    Here's the problem.

No one rarely discusses the fundamentals of it. It's just medicare for all. Until you get rid of billing insurance, and loopholes, and companies that offer thing to exploit loopholes, and fraud (lord, the fraud), as well as the lobbying that is made possible by all of these groups, it's not possible. That's just the provider side. God only knows what will happen on the patient side.

tear it down. whether it collapses in 20 years due to medicare for all or due to 20 more years of ballooning cost and shrinking coverage is truly academic. it must be reformed in a major way. this was my objection to obamacare- it didn't fix, it bandaged.

I will bet that you won't walk to work a single day this week.

And that you cannot afford to just pave, let alone entirely build, any single road between your house and your office.

Tell us more about how you are giving more than you get.
