Dead serious. Would he be considered conservative enough?

    Issues -

    Divorced
Self-admitted liberal Democrat when younger and idolized FDR
Says he became a conservative b/c of a TV role
Signed an abortion bill as Governor
Was opposed to anti-gay legislation in CA

    I don't think he could.

he'd win in a landslide. people forget how dynamic of a speaker reagan was. that would trump the rest of it.

I agree Card. Even though Reagan is the go-to guy today, he was not socially conservative enough. My favorite Repub president, Eisenhower, would be ran out of town on a rail for being a big government flaming liberal by today's standards. It's an indictment on how far the radical right-wing elements of the party have jerked the party towards absurd levels of extreme conservatism.

reagan was no more liberal than romney. though reagan's church going record was suspect at best.

He may still win, but I don't think in a landslide. Not so sure evangelicals would flock to him like you think. His moderate social stances would causes some issues with the wing nut elements.

I agree. That is one reason Romney hasn't put a lid on the nomination yet. Reagan would face the same head winds in today's Republican party, imo.

This is what I am getting at. Its more of an example that anything. He'd be labeled as a flip-flopping rino in a heartbeat that was just a good talker.

romney is no great speaker. if he had half of reagan's ability he'd have it locked up by now. Romney isn't locking it up because he's not all that exciting.

I would say roughly 15%-25%. There's about the same percenatge of fringe element kooks on both sides.

This is true. Reagan was one of the most dynamic speakers of all the Presidents- quite possibly THE most dynamic. He didn't get the title of The Great Communicator for nothing.

So almost or about half the country are far-something kooks? That is depressing.

Its more depressing when you realize about 99% of the fringes don't even use their brain to determine their position, they just do it.

I've been debating in posting the fact of this in question form on fb to see how many people would not vote for him that probably sit him as one of their heroes.

Only two ways I really see things changing:

    1. Some how we move to a three party system or more
    2. The well goes dry and all of the free hand outs end.
