over the next month, don't forget the clay travises of the world who said this was all media hype and that more people die of the flu. it will be hard to remember why people said that stuff, but it is because they couldn't wrap their brains around or even recognize something new happening- full stop. and they called those who did stupid and emotional.

some will say no one could have foreseen this. also definitely not true. they argued with those who did.

Clay did it to get clicks. End of story.

And that’s actually way worse than simply being ignorant.

By the way, he’s already started laying groundwork for future excuses. The people pointing things out that make the virus look worse than his few cherry picked stats are “cheering for the virus”.

Not sure if this has been posted. This is fascinating. A company that sells thermometers that are connected to the internet. The company is comparing fevers in March 2020 to what we typically see. Florida and Michigan may get ugly in the next few days. Overall, though, they are detecting a decrease in atypical #s of fevers over the last few days across much of the country.

The question is whether they are able to properly control for total readings this year. I'm sure there are a lot of people taking their own temps who don't feel sick.

This is bullshit. Ive been dealing with govt, medicare, medicaid, tricare, VA, etc in the medical products field for 20 years and "their goal is to prepare for a future crisis", when discussing not outsourcing private companies is ignorant and political bullshit.
I guess people already forgot their lack of preparation and ability to create tests, which had to be outsourced. Were they preparing to precent a crises when they dragged their feet? Did the govt create the new home cv test? Or did Abbot labs.

At a minimum, we need a percentage requirement for domestic manufacturing of certain industries for national security. The one thing Trump has done right is to tell China to [uck fay] off. But that doesn't do us any good if we move all that manufacturing to Malaysia or Thailand. Some of it has to come back to the states.

What is being done now, regarding the MIT team linked. The point is we lock ourselves into a paradigm that we don't have to. The private industry is a powerful and mostly good thing, but there are some things it just isn't going to be able to do because they are counter to the economics of industry.

The sort of people who would have done that in the government don't exist, because it was considered a waste of money. So we had to wait for it to become financially beneficial for private industry. They aren't doing it for free.

Yep. Thailand's a good alternative to China, but some portion has to come home.

I was watching that a few weeks ago but ultimately decided it wasn’t tracking anything of interest at the time. I thought it might have been but SW Michigan, for example, has been ‘hot’ this whole time but has never really lifted off in C19 cases.

Thailand is where a lot of people are already getting stuff manufactured.

The MIT thing started years ago, and was set aside. They have resumed it this month. In terms of preparedness, it would have made more sense to have it completed before, or at least have been ramping it up in January or February.

We used to have programs like that completed and ready to be implemented for things during the Cold War. We don't anymore.
