While a common term, I don't think it was ever considered completely socially acceptable/classy (but for a wide variety of reasons).

 

I just googled it and can 100% say I've never heard that one.

You use the language of discussion.

Calling your car's speedometer a speedometer isn't wrong, just because your car has a compass on it, and you now have magnitude and direction, making it a velocimeter.

You use the language of the subject, because words have different meanings in different contexts.

 

In the context of nuts, you didn't list any true nuts. Someone pointed that out. You are now arguing that because many people call them nuts, they are. Okay man. A speedometer is a speedometer. A compass is a compass. Combining instruments to indicate velocity is a velocimeter of sorts. That's all true. The things you listed are not botanically considered to be nuts is also true. Cope.

 

But they are considered to be nuts when discussing food. Which is what we're discussing.
