i agree, but i'm not overly convinced that all these multinational corporations in other areas are running the little guy out of business by artificially lowering their prices. some types of businesses, as you point out, work better as small businesses (contractors, lawyers, accountants, etc), and some do not (microsoft, apple, etc).

    Products v. services.

ETA: okay, maybe that's a bit oversimplified

I work all over the state of Tennessee and do a little in Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia.

One huge contractor we work goes all over the south east, Virginia to Arkansas to Florida

Is the one huge contractor made up of local subsidiaries? Rather, is the work done in VA done by the same people who do the work in Arkansas?

Depends on the trade. Our plumbers are working for them in Mississippi, they have an HVAC company they take with them all over and they have steel workers that travel with them. Same with roofers.

Concrete, they use local most of the time. Framing and sheetrock are usually local.

But this company is kicking ass. They turn down $500,000 jobs all the time.
