I hate gimmicks. It's a gimmick, therefore I think it's stupid. Pretty sure about 10% of the fanbase would rather checker neyland than win the game.
Running through the T was a gimmick in 1965. Now it is a beloved tradition. The checker thing is cool and harmless and gives the fans something that they can do. I love it, as long as it isn't done too much. Like alternate uniforms (though I still hate the grey unis).
"In my day, we just ran out of a tunnel with our heads down and ready to take care of business. We were just glad to have the opportunity to run out of the tunnel, we didn't need to run through no damn letter. Are they afraid they are gonna forget what letter Tennessee starts with? It don't make sense, just a bunch of gimmicky nonsense."
I couldn't care less whether they checker Neyland or not. I have no idea if I'll be in a white section or orange section, but I'll be there in an orange shirt like I have for the couple of hundred games I've been to in the past. If people want to coordinate their attire based on their section, go for it.
I like the game. Checker Neyland is about the same as the Smokey's on the prowl. Stupid gimmicks I don't care about.
You know you howled like a mother[uck fay]er when they played that sound. Embrace it, don't run from it.
Anyway, if you want to checker yourself, have at it. If my shirt fits in the section or doesn't, oh well.
Yeah. It really was terrible. I seem to remember another one at the same time where it was some rhyming nonsense that ended with "all for Tennessee, stand up and howl". Both were cringy and added nothing to the atmosphere at the game.
