I would hope all people with a firearm, whether pro firearms or not, would be extra careful always. If the media spotlight serves as a reminder, I'm all for it. But the underlying tone is rarely a reminder to be safe, but instead a plug as to why they are dangerous. Those who see guns as already dangerous don't really need any more reminders, and those who need reminders are put off by anti firearm sentiment they believe the media puts out. In other words, the people who need to pay attention to these things don't, and the people who have no need, do.

We've had this conversation before, but they ARE dangerous, just like a car or power tool is dangerous.
And I've already said they, like anything else, is dangerous. But whereas we see any numerous amount of reminders to buckle up, don't text and drive, and reminders by media to slow down on dangerous curves when it is raining, we rarely get the "make sure your weapons are unloaded when transporting them to the gunshow this weekend." That is the difference. You accept that cars are dangerous, and still get the safety speeches. You accept that firearms are dangerous, but instead, see reports that confirms the danger, without any reminder of ways to limit the risk.
