    limpleg He gone. No, really.

    So this is Monte's fault?

He is an offensive big pimp, but his record is crap if you take away 2011. Maybe he was thrown into a head coaching job too early. Does he get his first big shot at Oakland without the Kiffin name? IDK. Good news for him is he's still young and he seemed to be humbled last year going from preseason #1 to not ranked. Just for the record, I'm a fan, just think he got rushed into head coaching too soon because he's a Kiffin

Maybe Kiffin is a peckerhead? Look at the way Al Davis fired him.

The Al Davis that fired Mike Shanahan and gave Jon Gruden away?

Hate to use 2000s Al Davis as a barometer for anything.

If Monte was such a big aid in Lane getting the Oakland job, why did Al refuse to let him fire Rob Ryan and bring his father in?

    I still agree with you.

Al Davis was the most brilliant executive the NFL had seen for 30 plus years. He then devolved into a paranoid sociopath.

If forced to speculate, I'd say he'll be on staff with the Steelers or Seahawks this time next year.

What really sucks is seeing how decisive and swift USC acted in all of this, and Lane had actually had a little success there. Compare that to how Dooley's release was handled.

Who made the decision to hire his dad?

Haden does a good job of making kneejerk and random look decisive and swift. He's Mike Hamilton in better suits.

He certainly didn't help. Look at the 8 losses SC had in '11 and '12. How many of those are wins with just a mediocre defensive effort?

Lane did. It's the main reason he's taking a vacation in October. That's what happens when you hire assistants who don't get it done. Butch Jones should take note.

Being loyal to a friend, even when its wildly unpopular, speaks volumes about a person's character.

    I've always immensely appreciated that.

No. They'll go bigger this time, IMO.

Hopefully he learns from his mistakes.
