    In the paper today
Tales of war and of waste
    But you turn right over
    To the TV Page.

Good thread idea. I'm afraid I can't recognize that one, though.

I walk in shadows searching for light
Cold and alone no comfort in sight
Hopin' and prayin' for someone to care
    Always movin' and going nowhere.

Can we have more than one per day? If so:

    I'll tell ya

    You can put me out...
    on the street.

    You can put me out...
with no shoes on my feet.

But put me out, put me out, put me out of misery.

    Some high society lady says
    Is your horse outside?

No ma'am he's between my legs
but you're too fat to ride

Now many many years ago when I was twenty-three
I was married to a widow who was pretty as can be
This widow had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red
My father fell in love with her and soon they too were wed

    Oh I'm my own grandpa
    I'm my own granpa
    It sounds funny I know,
    But it really is so
    Oh I'm my own grandpa

I had to look this one up and am now shocked I couldn't recognize it. A little surprised about the first one, too. I guess the melody is more important than I realized.

    High and dry
    Out of the rain
    It's so easy
To hurt others when you can't feel pain.

If my rhyme was a drug
I'd sell it by the gram
Keep my composure when it's time to get loose
Magnetized by the mic while I kick my juice

    It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
    As deep as any ocean
    As sweet as any harmony

    What I want, you've got
And it might be hard to handle,
But like the flame that burns the candle,
    The candle feeds the flame.

    Seeking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job,
    But I get no offers.
Just a come on from the whores
    On Seventh Avenue.

    I do declare
    There were times
    I was so lonesome,
    I took some comfort there
La la la la la la la............

Too bad those guys broke up. Had some good songs after but it would have been better if they'd kept it going.

    Everything is not enough
Nothing is too much to bear
Where you been is good and gone
All you keep is the getting there

    The district sleeps alone tonight
After the bars turn out their lights
    And send the autos swerving
    Into the loneliest evening
    And I am finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving
