Ok. Now that Christmas is over, it's time to address some other issues I had with The Last Jedi....not that anyone really cares...but I'm doing it anyway. Fair warning: this is not the end of my takes. It's just all I have time for right now. POE- Poe is one of the few in the film that does evolve some. Someone said earlier that Poe was shown not to be this sort of perfect shining knight type guy. That's not always the best in this movie, imo. His dialogue with Hux gave me a little chuckle. What can I say? I'm a bit of a sucker for a little sophomoric humor, emphasis on a little. Storyline wise, Poe oversteps his bounds and gets called for it, but that whole situation seemed very forced to me for the sake of creating a conflict and hatching the botched abortion known as the casino planet adventure, or as I have come to say, Vegas Vacation- Finn & Rose style (which is unfunny unlike Vegas Vacation, and completely unnecessary due to no real place in the plot much like Vegas Vacation). I mean I'm against animal cruelty as well, but I don't want Sarah McLachlan to break out in full song while showing CGI animals being mistreated in my Star Wars movies. Oh, and (and I'm not getting into politics here, but politics are in the movie) if you're of the opposite party that I am, you should have hated the notion that all the rich are evil & not only profiting off the war between The First Order & The Resistance, they are also fueling it in the name of greed. All this could have been avoided if Laura Dern would have stopped worrying about dinosaurs chasing children for a second, and just told Poe what was going on. It's not like Poe hadn't been trusted with doing the most secretive and dangerous Resistance missions....ever Yeah, he cost them all their bombers on an ill-advised attack on a Dreadnaught, but I'd argue that gave the Resistance a lot of hope when they desperately needed it. And seeing how it looks like The Resistance is going nowhere (even after their BIG win at Starkiller Base), this trilogy seems to be only about hope with no real payoff thus far. Think of Poe's actions as a galactic Doolittle Raid, if you will. So he needlessly gets demoted (when there's only a couple hundred Resistance left) to create this forced friction with Leia & Dern's character leading to that god-awful casino planet deal that turns out to be a snipe hunt- competely & utterly useless. I don't mind showing that Poe is a flawed hero, a la Han Solo, I just think Rian Johnson sucked at trying to pull that off. Oh, and why don't I use the name of Dern's character? Because I don't care to know what it is as a result of Johnson just throwing her in the middle of the movie with no buildup of her character before or after she's introduced. Simply put, I'm never made to have any feelings, good or bad, for her purple haired character. That's on Rian Johnson. The "Bomber" scene- While it was visually appealing, I was left thinking, wtf? Did I miss something, or did Rian Johnson decide to really use GRAVITY bombs IN SPACE to take out a First Order Dreadnaught? If I missed something there, please enlighten me. I'll do my take on Johnson's "visions" of Supreme Leader Snoke and Luke Skywalker in a bit. To me, Johnson's handling of Luke is the most egregious of his MANY sins in this movie. Don't jump to conclusions on what I mean by saying that. You'll get the opportunity to shit on how I took what Johnson did when I tell you exactly what I thought. Peace.
No mention of speeders that are for combat but can't make more than a 15 degree turn without hitting the ground?
All combat in Star Wars involves straight lines. It was those stupid prequels that ruined otherwise good “I’ve still got a few tricks up my sleeve” straight line flying.
I've re-watched Force Awakens a few times since it came out. While being a disappointment, the movie is at least enjoyable. The Last Jedi was just bad on too many levels for me to want to watch it again.
How? I want specifics, and not "just didn't like it" or "wasn't a 'Star Wars' film." I just hear that a lot and when probed, they cannot give me a good reason.
There was no continuity in the story from Force Awakens, events like floating dead Leia, the 45 minutes on that stupid casino planet, etc.
