If it were about money it would have been a planned deal. Instead, it came out publicly and the day after Simmons made (more) comments about Goodell. And you don't think that was the reason? Or at least most of the reason?
I think people are more likely to negotiate in good faith and treat emplpyees with respect with someone they like and isn't a dipshit. I don't think they were going to continue to give him $4 mil a year under any circumstances. His comments just sped up the decision and announcement.
In light of all the new evidence that The Worldwide Leader is struggling a bit financially -- or at least tightening its belt -- I am going to have to concede that money was at least A factor in his firing. Not necessarily THE factor, but A factor. There I said it.
