You've probably seen that video out there of him going ridiculous HAM on some staff guy over some minor mistake
NFL primetime was the highest rated show on the network before they lost the NFL rights. I despise the man, but obviously some people like him and he generates revenues.
Again, not sure how that's attributed to him, the NFL is a damn machine. They could put Kermit the Frog as host.
I'm assuming ESPN has done market research that suggests otherwise. There have been plenty of top end talent that they've let go because they didn't want to pay competitive rates: olberman, dan Patrick, etc. I assume they've kept him around for a reason.
I actually agree with you, but it's pretty obvious ESPN doesn't agree. Or at least thinks he's too iconic to be shown the curb.
If Grantland even exists in 6 months, it further goes to show this wasn't about money given that Simmons was driving the lion's share of traffic on that site.
Doubt they'll scuttle it completely that quickly. We'll just see a long list of departures with no replacements. I imagine many of these people have contracts too.
Nowhere in my post did I state or even insinuate that you were who I was talking about. Awfully defensive today, aren't you?
