I used to love to watch chickens run around after my grandfather had cut their heads off in preparation for supper. I thought it was one of the funniest things in the world at that time. It's a wonder all animal farmers don't become serial killers.
I think it’s funny people think chickens are good for the environment while cows are evil. There’s a reason poultry was for kings and beef was cheaper than poultry
I can testify that chickens are one of the nastiest creatures on the planet. I'm not a huge fan of chicken as a result. Sure, I'll eat KFC & hot wings, but not much else when it comes to these nasty birds.
I love chicken but after raising them on pasture I have a hard time with factory raised ones now. They’re just flavorless
We have had chickens the last few years. They are not too discriminatory about where they poop or where they sleep. We only kept them for their eggs.
I don't care for the taste of eggs. At all. Eggs are chicken abortion. Plus, it's a texture thing. Don't care greatly for tomatoes or potatoes either. Taters taste like dirt to me. And yes. I know I have odd food tastes for a country boy.
I had chickens up until I left for college. Disgusting creatures. The eggs were good, not sure they’re worth it
They’re not bad if you really stay up on your management. We did the Joel Salatin chicken tractor method. It’s was great for the hay fields too.
Quick semi-interesting fact: Most methane produced by cattle comes from belching, not farting. Saw a news segment on a town in either Wisconsin or Minnesota, I think, where all the electricity for the town was produced using methane extraction from cow shit. It was a report about the Green New Deal & how it could benefit farmers.
Most of that comes from grain though. If we’d go to cattle raised on pasture managed with rotational grazing, we’d fix that issue. Plus cattle on rotational grazing builds soil, which would sequester carbon. Basically we can solve global warming by just changing how we manage our livestock.
