Chuck Smith seems to fit the bill. He is off his rocker.

I too wonder if that was a watershed moment for his career

Put me in the least excited camp as well. My expectation is that we go 8-4, win nothing of note, and finish the season in Tampa getting clown stomped by Urban Meyer again.

It would take some indication that we are on our way to winning and SEC championship in the near future. It would take some reason to believe that in the next couple of years, we will look Alabama in the eye and then kick their asses. It would take something from our head coach that would make me believe that he is better than Joker Phillips, John L Smith, Hugh Freeze and James Franklin and that he is of the same quality as Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier.

Quantify that however you like, but that's what I'm looking for.

Well, at least we won't have to worry about that. Meyer won't be in a bowl game this year.

I would rather have a 3 meter gain than a 3 yard gain.

I guess we've accused him of playing with himself after two shakes instead of after three.

Without putting down Berrypick6, I really don't think he notices the lack of basics that all well coached teams have. Their failure last year had little to do with upperclassmen or depth.

You have a point.....but we can't convert 3rd and 1/2 yard with consistency much less 3rd and 1/2 meter.

You nailed it. It goes beyond record for me. The basic techniques that are not dependent on age/experience have been atrocious. Just to name a few:

    1. Dead legs and coming out high when run blocking
    2. No mental focus- aside from the painfully obvious- too many 3rd and 4th and short penalties and waste of timeouts due to confusion/late play calls.
    3. The total inability to set the edge on defense. I could come close to breaking contain of our defense the last 2 years.
    3. Special teams- nothing more needs to be said.
    4. Excessive substitution penalties.

There's more, but for the sake of brevity, these are skills that recruits at this level learned in high school. Apparently there's been not enough to no focus on maintaining these skills. We haven't just lost games; we've look completely inept in our fundamentals while losing.

Lots of truth in this (despite JV's ability to count).

I suppose, though, you fix these things and you are a lot more likely to win some games. Hence my point of winning 9 or 10 games is what does it for me.

I really believe all of this goes back to Chaney trying to out think everyone and ending up looking like an idiot. DBs are now taught that when they are in a nickel or quarter defense to read the hats of the OLs at the snap of the ball to cheat on a pass/run. We went into the season expecting to see this type of defensive philosophy 90% of the time. Thus, we changed our entire method of blocking based on trying to disguise whether we were running or passing.

What Chaney couldn't see though, was that there is more to producing consistently on offense than a dry erase board and markers. It requires you to play nasty and outwork people, not out think them.

    No, but a reasonable facsimile.

    DH-

You're right. It made our OL passive. I'm not a fan of DB's reading helmets personally.
