That's why I love watching Virginia and Wisconsin play. They actually play as if someone is coaching them.

just a good habit and you default to going to get the ball rather than letting it come to you

agreed. I'd much rather watch execution than athleticism now. I had a much different view 20 years ago, but most good teams executed then.

Take your son to Simon Gratz or Hank Gathers rec center and he'll learn to play hoops pretty quickly, no coaching needed.

The same thing is happening in football with technique.

I'm by no means a basketball expert, but the conversation in this thread has made me cry of the pure awfulness of coaching.

In this instance, I'm glad my dad's dead, if not, the current bball game would have killed him.

No shit. For those (like me) who know nothing, this immensely helps to know what is / is not happening, why, and what we should be doing, instead.

When guys quit being coaches and started being wanna be CEOs, the level of instruction went to hell.

Same can be said for most sports, no?

I think the level of coaching in the NFL and the NBA is still, on the whole, staggeringly good.

College baseball at the D1 and D2 level are solid.

I am wondering when it was the last time someone saw a curl executed in a game? For me, I think it was Ron Mercer, circa 1996.

Same. I know nothing of organized basketball, and this has been quite illuminating to the superficial trends I have witnessed.

Texas Tech made the NCAA Tournament multiple times under Bob Knight just running curls for Kasib Powell and Jay Jackson.

I vaguely remember. A lost art form, though.
