Injury time is silly too. Just stop the clock on injury so theres no magical 4 minutes added at the end. Soccer seems to be the only sport that hasnt changed too many rules.
Yeah. And it is great. Compare that to the NFL that has a rule book the size of a family bible vs the rules for Association Football.
I dont mind it at times but its a common complaint and will always prevent sports fans from jumping on board for very long. Get fired up about the US to play every 4 years, and they respond in a qualifying game with no goals and maybe a shot on goal in 90+ minutes.
MLS tried implementing some MLS rules and it was lampooned and ultimately dropped so that MLS now has the same rules as the rest of the world. Don't like it? Ah well. I love it. It has quickly become my favorite sport.
1-3 take a little more effort than I have time rn but I’ll get back to you 4. Spain in the 09 Confederations Cup, maybe Argentina in the 95 Gold Cup on South American soil, those are from the top of my head 5. Beating Mexico in the 2002 round of 16 was pretty damn satisfying
A who? Kicked forward to where? Like, at all - you always have to have a defender between two offensive players who are passing and advancing toward the goal?
As an American - this would be a big help toward my continuing interest in soccer....get a damned actual game clock. None of this, maybe there’s time, maybe there isn’t bullshit.
Nitpicky, but the rule is technically that the second to last player on the field for the defending team determines whether the offensive player is offside-- GK or not. Edit: And I see you posted a video already covering that. Oh well.
It's to prevent things like "cherry picking" in basketball from happening in soccer as it goes against the spirit of the game. In a field that large making up space isn't gonna happen as opposed to the 90 feet of a basketball court.
