I didn't realize that we had so many bladed aficionados here, so I'll be the jerk that asks the best and most obvious question, IMO: 1. Who gives a shit, either way? Is the lack of switchblades causing some unknown harm that I am now unaware of? If so, what? 2. Why is the Tennessee State Legislature even bothering with such insignificantly stupid shit, such as this? This couldn't possibly matter to more than 500 people, absolute maximum. 3. What, precisely, will legalizing switchblades do for the state, and its citizenry?
FREEEDOM! Seriously, I guess it is just a pruning of stupid laws. But they should really wholesale look at the books and just do a batch job. I am for every 100 years a year is taken to completely look at all laws and remove them if horrible, keep them if not. Bureaucracy just might be the noose that hangs any country after too much time has passed. Over simplification, but just something that has been on my mind lately.
I'm for the repeal of as many laws as can be reasonably achieved. So, I'm all for your plan. But switchblades? Why start this process on something that is so seemingly unimportant to 99.9999% of Tennesseans?
I guess some guy in the State Senate wanted to carry a switchblade, or his son did, and put it in motion. Seems like a silly thing to concentrate on, I agree.
Because the new law didn't address just automatic knives. It addressed all knives. Autos, gravity knives, blades longer than 4", etc. It was a knife bill that repealed a lot of the criminal classifications for everyday use, and instead stiffened the punishment for criminal use.
Before July 1st, if you carried a knife greater than 4" into Walgreens, you were comitting a criminal act. After July 1st, if you carry a knife greater than 4" into Walgreens, you are fine. But if you pull that knife out and try to cut someone, your punishment is more severe than it was before July 1st. Like, you know, how law should be.
Welcome to hell. These will be everywhere, gangs running wild!
Are we talking air miles or road miles? If we are talking the island just off Cleveland, I believe it
Air miles (great circle, straight shot, as the crow flies). That still puts into perspective about how idiotic it is to think that Memphis kids are "UT kids" because they are in-state.
Jesus, you stick me with anything longer than a four inch blade, its probably coming out the outer side.
