Now the background commitments that may incline someone towards being pro-life are doubtless going to affect their views on other things, but the pro-life position itself doesn't mandate others.

I don't know what is going on in that text, but the idea that Christians are called to resist rather than suffer is a long way from the New Testament that I've been reading. Here's one guy's take on the text you referenced.
