Helton is overrated, even though USC had a balanced offense by having the 35th ranked rushing offense. Darnold didn't throw for 6,000 yards, only led USC to the 18th best pass offense in a balanced west coast offense. UT is doomed, so let's all watch the downfall and say our condolences.

Same way a guy that walked into elite, uber defenses at two of his stops and has recruited at three of the best recruiting gigs in the country might fail taking over a dumpster fire as a first time HC with about ten years of total college experience could fail. And the answer to what a coach can do during a dead period is literally too numerous to answer. Roster evaluation. Strength & Conditioning evaluation and planning. Filling out your coaching and support staff. Facilities/equipment evaluations. Film study to assess strengths & weaknesses. Spring practice planning. Film study on future opponents. Training table/dietary evaluations. On. And. On. And. On. It really is an almost endless list.
