It aggravates me too, but in Patterson's case, he's turned down a lot of schools and I'm willing to bet he retires at TCU

 

If we fire Jones and hire Fuente, I'll quit.

He seems like a great coach, but he's accomplished exactly jack shit at the level which we aspire to regain, in the upper echelon of teams who routinely challenge for championships.

Let him cut his teeth elsewhere, and prove me wrong on someone else's dime and time clock.

I've had my fill of up-and-comers, which is all that he is, and don't give two shits as to whether anyone else here has learned this lesson or not, by now.

 

Winning is all that matters. We'd all forgive Butch for his quips and cliche driven bullshit if we were winning. Fleck could act like a crazed ape, can he win?

 

That anyone here, likely in the Top 2% of Tennessee fans who know their shit, see Fuente as a viable option is exactly the problem.

Yup. I want to see him with talent against talent. He's done well at Memphis, but he gets by right now by getting by. He hasn't done much on the defensive side of the ball, I don't believe.

He's made Memphis good, but after Larry Porter, anyone could.

 

He wouldn't be my first choice but if you're going that route, he's got to be at the top of the list of up and comers.

I have no faith that we could hire an elite level coach. None.

 

I'd much prefer to pay $50M to one proven commodity, than $10M to five up-and-coming "maybes".

But that's just me, I understand what ROI is.

 

When did UT hire and up and comer?

Dooley always sucked and Butch managed to not completely **** up Brian Kelly's foundations.

 

I think that we're going to be talking about a new coach a LOT quicker than some think possible.

If TN could land Gruden or Chip Kelly, Jones will be gone this season.

It's not even about money. Why do we hire people that have to be googled when they're announced? And Fuente definitely falls into that category.

 

The ****ing truth is that we could land guys of that caliber any time we were willing to invest the money and control that those sort of coaches command. But you know that.

 

He's an offensive guy.

The problem with hiring 'up and comers' is you're basically throwing shit at a wall and hoping it'll stick.

Sure, you might get lucky, but there's been a lot more "hot" coaching names through the years than there have been coaches with sustained success at a major college level.

 

Dave Doeren, Dave Clawson, etc.

 

Serious question. Who can make that hire at UT ?

Yep. There's a reason Michigan will be in the national title hunt sooner rather than later. They hired a guy who they KNOW can get them there. Not someone that they think or hope can.
