Jr PGA can't really seem to make up it's mind whether it is ultra competitive or just recess with golf clubs. Here, at least, it was a very odd mix of both.
That was fun. Had a 2 shot lead early on back. Played fine down the stretch. Just couldn't get a birdie to fall and Gooch went crazy. As nice as a win would have been, $60k for solo 2nd was a nice consolation. He has a shot now with another good week in Oregon and then the finals.
So down the road from me @ 20 minutes is The Hideaway at Arrington course. Really pretty, hills, etc. Fairly new. Tiger Woods Arizona based development company and Fazio are coming in and redesigning it, course and neighborhood. Timberlake is evidently now involved too as he moved to leipers fork, reachable via 840. 100k to join. They are trying to be the most exclusive club in the state. Neighborhood recording studio, amphitheatre, etc. Just thought I'd share. Could end up a destination place for people with lot of cash to waste. Blackberry Farms but with golf and less horses
I [uck fay]ing hated that they let that shit go on as long as they did. Thank [uck fay]ing god it’s over.
I can't remember who it was that it cost a major, but it was a ridiculous avenue for rule enforcement. Maybe DJ?
Yes Dustin Johnson during the 2010 pga at Whistling Straits. Someone called in over a violation on the 18th hole.
That wasn’t a viewer called penalty that I’m aware of. That one was reviewed on a TV with DJ and they all agreed he grounded it so he missed the playoffs. Tiger I believe got called on one at the Masters a few years ago where he took a drop that gave him (what was determined) a number he could get a full swing on. Most recently Lexi Thompson had a viewer called penalty for her mark on the green at an LPGA major.
DJ was assessed a two shot penlty at the 2016 US Open, on maybe hole 4-5, but not until well after he spoke with a rules official about what happened. I think it wasn’t until the back 9 they told him he’d been penalized 2 shots, or well after he spoke to the rules official and was supposedly cleared.
David Price was the rules official for the final group that Sunday. "Somebody that saw it on TV called in. Hopefully, he didn't do it." — David Price, after Johnson entered the scoring tent.
That penalty on DJ was bs. Patrons don't stand in bunkers on the course and weren't people standing where the ball landed? Even more bs is having to hit out of a divot in the middle of the fairway. Nothing like a guy in the first cut on 18 to win a title and 20 yards back having a better lie than a ball piped down the middle but is in a divot.
he's gonna dominate the coverage and conversation this year, whether he wins or loses, just because he's back
I love the first day (especially early first day) of the Masters. You always get some ancient curmudgeon that shoots low going out and takes the lead, and end the day with some unknown sitting in the lead after day 1, only to crumble and fade on day 2. If I could win one tournament as a golfer, the Masters would be it. I wonder how many professional golfers would say the same thing? I bet it is rather high.
