I'm well aware and live within a couple miles or so of a prominent military property that would definitely be a priority target. And yes, I would be a lot luckier than you because I'd never even know it happened.

My dad was all freaked out during the early tense days with Russia and Ukraine, and I reminded him that he would be the one surviving on a dying planet until starvation and I'd just be instant dust. And that if something happened, he shouldn't worry about me and my family at all, we're cashed out and not suffering. Whereas he is in a place where they would soon be simultaneously trying to feed themselves off the land and having a steady stream of desperate and likely armed refugees coming from the lower 48 and a nuclear winter.

The fantasy of having a bunker loaded with supplies and riding something like this out would actually be a hell. There is no riding it out, just more time to think about it.

 

Oh, if DC gets hit I'm just driving and parking in OR and waiting.

Growing up I lived 30ish miles from Milan Arsenal, and the I-40 stretch behind my house was allegedly a pretty prime target during cold war because it was a designated military runway to get arms from the arsenal to wherever they were needed.

I can at least be on the other side of I-40 on Pelissippi in that time. Hopefully that's close enough.

 

But then what? The fallout and background radiation will be immense. The nuclear winter will make growing crops at all very difficult. You said Oregon, you would be better off heading for Mexico or the Caribbean.
