"95% chance Butch is fired..."

There will be a "problem" if we have an interim coach given that there is a great chance we go 9-3 with a donkey coaching this team.

A donkey would have us undefeated right now. And there is no way a donkey does not perform better last week had Butch been fired after Florida.

At 9-3 you would have the legions of dumbassery across the state arguing that it makes sense to give the interim a shot.

Currie is either a complete moron, or he understands that when he hires a football coach he is now fireable based on how that coach works out. I'd think he'd rather keep Butch than permanently hire an interim. We'd have to really, really strike out in order for him to opt for promoting an interim.

They still only arrived there after striking out with Herman. Probably others, too.

Or he would have to have balls enough to fire an interim because he wasn't the man for the job, even if the short term record looked OK. I think he could, and would, do this.

If our fans are dumb enough to want Brady Hoke or Larry Scott, then, we seriously don't deserve to win.

    I hope yall are right.
Probably are. And on the one hand I think the likelihood of Currie wanting a knockout hire coupled with the benefit of getting rid of Butch sooner rather than later makes an interim the better option.
Its just that the the other hand would fall right in line with the past decade of UT football.

If we made Hoke interim, would Scott and Shoop maintain control over their respective sides of the ball? If that is the case, maybe we can see how much Butch was handicapping the team.

EDIT: I'll add that I'm not advocating for the keeping of any of these coaches, we should wipe the entire slate clean after the season, I'm just interested in how much Butch's input hurts team execution.

I don't know if he wants a knockout hire, but I do think he wants to be the one who does the choosing. Having Fulmer or anybody else pushed on him doesn't seem like something he'd welcome by all accounts.

Just really hard for me to believe a young guy like Currie would risk permanently tanking his career by hitching his wagon to a guy that just got done failing at Michigan or a guy Miami passed on based on some wins over Kentucky, Southern Miss, and Vandy. Hell, even LSU if you look at the overall record, is squarely in the "our [itch bay]" category.

    He wants a knockout hire.

He knows exactly what hiring John Calipari meant for Mitch Barnhart.

i promote hoke since he's a known failure at a major program and therefore even a great run likely doesn't get him the job. put phil there or shoop and you risk people thinking the guy knows what he's doing.

I saw this title and had to ask the question; If I have an erection for more than four hours, but am not on Viagra, do I still contact a doctor?

Otherwise, I am still going to believe that Jones is out when it finally happens. He has a knack for doing the bare minimum for salvaging his job and we all know that he isn't ever sniffing a pay day like the one he's getting now ever again in his life. I hate to rely on Georgia, of all teams, to show some consistency and rip through the Vols this weekend.

You were almost first. Doesn't count, though. I called it.

    No question.

If Fulmer beats everyone but Bama, or only loses one more in addition to Bama, there would be plenty of support for keeping him full time, no matter how stupid it is. And some boosters who were upset by his firing and his not being named AD would probably handcuff Currie.

He took this job, for all interested ts and purposes, to be known as the guy that brought Tennessee back
