I read music also, but I have never figured out what all those circles with sticks are and why some are black and some have flags. Also don't understand why some songs say play 2/3 hard while some say 3/4, and others say 6/8. Isn't that the same thing?

That's part of what I need brushed up on. I know the top number is the beats per measure

Thanks for not ending that question with a preposition. I was too lazy to restructure mine

That doesn't have tied notes or dots (basically shorthand for tied notes).

Top number is beats per measure, bottom number is what kind of a note counts as a beat. I think it's more of a feel thing with 3/4 and 6/8, there's not a real difference.

This confuses me. Why is the whole note the smallest symbol? That flies in the face of all the math I've ever been exposed to.

    I got nothin'.

I think a lot of the written notation had to do with chants, etc. Maybe they were working backwards or something.

Although I guess when you have relatively uncommon stuff like 64th notes, it's easier to add a flag than take something away/make it smaller.

    If I ever saw this:

I think I would walk out.

I got a uke, the uke tuner app, the uke chords app, and I'm ready to be the next Asian guy who plays Beatles songs incredibly well on the uke without the well or Asian. Go Pooch!
