Age does matter, but it is mostly generational. 8 -12 years I would say is the maximum difference that makes sense, sans a few extreme cases. But once you get outside that range, the generational divide just seems like it would be too great. To me, anyway. I just couldn't fathom wanting to talk about things from the 80's while I was in high school with my wife who was 4 at the time or not even born yet.
