In Defense of Butch Jones

I seriously wonder if Butch has an "ideal" type QB to run this offense. When he was at Cincy, Tony Pike and Zach Collaros (sp?) ran the offense fairly efficiently IIRC...you would think that working with those two, being comparable to Worley, would have some bearing on how he implements the offense with Worley. (insert obligatory "the is the SEC, not the Big East" response)

OV, in your opinion, where does the lion's share of the fault lie with the OL's play (or lack thereof) this year; Precious not recruiting one single (f**king) OL in '12, an overall lack of talent at the position, sheer youth, Mahoney, or _____________?

Reading the BR(I know, I know) article on the difference between Brian Kelly and Butch, I've come to realize that anyone expecting Dormady to come in and play and solve our issues from the QB spot are being completely unrealistic. They ask the QB to do a lot in the passing game, and they ask him to do it perfectly. If Dormady starts, he's either a savant or he's going to make a ton of bad mistakes.

No OV, but the lack of fundamentals should be disturbing to anyone.

I don't know what we're doing, but it doesn't work.

Just for kicks, I looked through Freak's video of our offensive plays. By my quick, uneducated count, we ran that play 12 times for 23 yards. Three of those runs went for 4,5, and 6 yards. The other 9 went for between 3 (twice) and -1 yards.

The play, whatever it is, sucks the way we run it.

It is just too slow. That is the problem.

    It is too slow.

The problem, though, is that we run it 12 times per game anyway.

The only thing that makes any amount of sense, whether I agree or not, is that this is the offense they're running, regardless of personnel. Since the o-line is going to be around beyond next year, and Worley isn't, they need to learn this offense as opposed to running something that fits Worley, only to have the line learn a new offense next year.

Why'd we run it last year?

Man, I hope he does. I do believe this offense would work if they had an actual legit dual threat QB running it. Like I said earlier, they would be 4-1 right now if they did. The reality is Tennessee doesn't have that right now so why not adjust, scheme for what they've got, and set the offense up for success where they can? Stop running an offense that isn't being fully executed. When the tactic that makes this style of offense work is the least concern for a defense....it's not working/effective and it's time to adjust.

They ran a lot more two tight, under center stuff, I have no clue why they've abandoned that. Not saying it was the basis of the offense, but it was there. I think they're just really in love with the WR corps and they try to utilize it. Don't forget Munchie Legaux, I'm pretty sure he was their QB for most of the 2012 season. Peterman is the most like LeFevour as far as physical tools go.

Reminds me of the old story about the guy who was buying wood by the truck load and selling it for what he bought it for. His solution to his financial woes was to buy a bigger truck.

Maybe Bruce will call that play 24 times the next game.

Exactly. Everything from the reads, to the drops, to the handoffs, happens so slow, compared to even Jones' offenses at Cincy, but certainly in the context of the best spread teams in the nation.

Because this is the offense they run, regardless of personnel?

Think it goes without saying you can't be a one trick pony...especially if you have three legs instead of four.

Reality is they do not how to scheme to talent. The MAC coaches blow period. Save your energy there is no money in it.

I miss the i-formation, two step drops, quick slants, etc...what we run seems like a dumbed-down version of Mississippi State's offense, without the enormously talented dual-threat QB, obviously.

And...Munchie Legaux...God, what a great name. Sounds like a french woman's porn star name or a lesbian stripper..."ladies...and gentleman...please welcome to the stage "MUNCHEE LEGAUX!!

    ...or, so I've heard.

I've never seen him run that much. I was just going on what had been said about him. I agree that he isn't that good at much of anything, but seeing him pass makes me think that he can't be worse than that at running, but maybe he is. We already have one guy that can't/won't/isn't allowed to read it. We surely don't need another.
