I know when I traveled overseas for business, I always would check which hand signals to avoid in certain countries.
IIRC Nixon got in trouble in Brazil.

 

Where might one become learned on such hand signals to avoid?

 

Working for a global company, they wanted us to not to do stupid shit and provided extensive resources on our internal website re: country-specific culture, hand signals, body language, greetings, things that might get the average Ugly American in trouble, etc.

I suspect information is now more readily available on the interwebz. The hand signal thing is quite interesting.
