UNLV, Texas Western off the top of my head. I think it has happened a few other times as well. And Gonzaga is undeniably of that caliber, and were the favorites in 2020.

Butler was about 2 inches from winning a national title.

And got there in consecutive years. Granted one of those games was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen in the tournament, but they won 5 games to get there

I should have been more clear. I meant for you to name the teams that aren't P5 who have or historically would have been screwed by the 4 team playoff. UCF from a few years back is a gimme but unless I'm missing something there isn't really strong cases after that.

They are not P5 and would get screwed under the current system. Beating a 6-5 Michigan in the Holiday Bowl indicates they would not have been given a major bowl berth in today' system either.

That TCU team that won the Rose Bowl and went 12-0. (they were not Big 12 yet).

    UCF had a strong case.

A couple of those Boise teams probably had a case.

    Interesting -

The auto bid is going to go to the six highest RANKED conference champs. P5 bid *coughs Pac 12* not guaranteed.

That's terrible. It isn't a true playoff if it is depending on an arbitrary ranking.

Those Boise teams were demanding a million plus for the privilege of P5 schools to play them. Those teams can eat shit.

That means they didn't deserve a shot at the title?

Heck folks, I hate to tell you guys this, but this is our best shot to become relevant again, because we weren't cracking that top 4 boundary anytime soon.

This actually also looks not too objectionable. This is the second thing about this that is good.

agreed. though the thought about the sec getting 3-4 teams a year seems kind of silly

That's what happens if you make it based on rankings.

They didn't view themselves as a real program so I didn't either.
